Members of the British Parliament have expressed some concerns over the “aggressive publicity techniques of online betting firms” during a recent session of Parliament.
Stating that there are almost 36 hours of online gaming and casino advertisements each week on television, Liberal Democrat MO Tessa Hunt called for there to be an Ofcom Review on internet gambling advertising.
“At a time when there is £1.45 trillion of personal debt in this country and when we are encouraging people to be moderate in their expectations and behaviour, will the Prime Minister please protect consumers, children and the vulnerable from this kind of activity by asking for a review by Ofcom.” Hunt said.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron asked gaming companies to be responsible for their own advertising and not to rely on regulations to police themselves in a statement this week. He also said, “Anyone who enjoys watching a football match will see quite aggressive advertisements on the television, and I think companies have to ask themselves whether they are behaving responsibly when they do that.”
