Unibet Teams Up with Rank to Acquire License in Belgium!

The online gambling company Unibet has announced that it teamed up with fellow gambling venture Rank in order to provide online gambling services in Belgium.

Unibet and Rank Group are the newest companies that have applied for an online gambling license in Belgium. The two ventures have entered into a partnership with each other that would permit them to become the main forces on the Belgian online gambling market. Unitet’s decision to team up with Rank can be explained by the fact that Rank has already two land-based casinos in Belgium, and thus a lot of experience in the market. More importantly, Rank has already a good relationship with the Belgian Gambling Commission which can secure an easy and fast licensing procedure for the two ventures.

Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström commented that the decision to expand into Belgium offers many opportunities due to the fact that the Belgian online gambling market is probably more profitable than the market of some bigger countries such as Spain or France. This can be explained due to the absurdly huge taxes in these countries.

CEO Henrik Tjärnström explained that:
“The Belgian market, It’s an environment where all products are allowed, and it’s an 11% tax on gross winnings revenue, one of the most favorable tax rates in the re-regulated markets in Europe.” He also used the opportunity to comment on the fact that most of his company’s revenues are originating from regulated markets. This means that the current overall increase in profits is smaller than the one recorded during the past few years. But he is confident that the Belgian license will solve this issue.

Unibet is a medium seized online gambling company that operates in various regulated markets, mostly in Western Europe. Unibet’s main services are sports betting but it also offers online casino, online poker and online bingo gaming solutions as well. Belgium is a recently regulated online gambling market. The online gambling law that has been adopted on January 1st 2012 allows online gambling companies to acquire a license but requires Belgian ISPs to block citizen’s access to unlicensed online gambling sites.
