The big online gambling operator Betsson announced that it will participate in a study in collaboration with Spelinstitutet that would help problem gamblers overcome their addiction and online gambling issues.
Gambling group Betsson AB will participate in the development of a 10-week self-help program that aims to offer new possibilities to people with online gambling problems to overcome their addiction. The study will be conducted by Spelinstitutet.
Betsson CEO Magnus Silfverberg commented the following:
“Betsson intends to further strengthen and intensify its efforts within responsible gaming. Our support to research and continuous development of responsible gaming tools is therefore an important part of our business plan.”
He further added that the main intention in participating in the study is to develop a tool that would allow players to avoid developing gambling problems. He said that since Betsson is dedicated to responsible gambling, his venture is glad to contribute with its experience to this study.
The new study will most likely be launched this September and will be offered at some of the online gambling brands run by Betsson such as Betsafe.com. Initially people from only Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland will be able to participate.
Based on the results of the pilot program the study might be extended on additional Betsson brands and may include people from various other countries around Europe where Betsson is operating.
Participating in the study will be optional to players registered at one of the brands run by Betsson. If a player decides to participate, then he or she will have to agree to share some of his or her personal information with the organizers of the study.
At the end of the initial stage of the study, the player will receive a detailed report about his or her playing habits. This information will also be evaluated by leading online gambling experts and researches.
The end goal of the study is to establish player profiles of people with gambling addiction in order to develop programs and self-help tools that will aid players to avoid getting addicted or manage to overcome their already existing addiction.
